DOZENS of sports cars roared into a North-East market place this afternoon during a run to welcome the driving season.

The Tees Valley TVR Car Club hold a Cobweb Run each year, taking their vehicles out of the garage after the long winter and enjoying the best of the region’s roads.

The group of 40 TVRs, a British sports car brand that ended production five years ago, started their day in Scotch Corner, following a route through Wensleydale and into Teesdale, before meeting in Darlington’s Market Place.

The colourful collection of cars gathered a crowd of motoring fans and admirers.

Paul Everington, regional organiser for the club, said: “We have people coming from the far north of England and also from Manchester, so we are quite spread out.

“The cobweb run gives us a chance to get together for the first time in the year and it’s something we’ve done for quite a long time.

“We didn’t intend for it to become a car show, we thought Darlington would be a nice stopping off point, but we seem to have attracted a bit of attention.”
