LAST ZONE Elderly man taken to hospital after town centre fall

AN elderly man was taken to hospital after a fall in the middle of a busy road this afternoon (Friday, March 15).

An ambulance was called to Prebend Row shortly after 2.30pm after the man suffered a head wound and a bloody nose.

Witnesses said the man, who has not been identified, appeared to lose his footing while walking down the steps from High Row and stumbled across the road before falling heavily.

An eyewitness said: “It was a simple accident, he lost his balance and just went. Lots of people rushed to help him and brought paper towels and things to help stem the blood.”

Police stopped traffic in Prebend Row while waiting for the ambulance to arrive, causing buses to back up into Priestgate and Crown Street for a short time.
