Hollywood glitz for school stars

ASPIRING young actors took to the red carpet for their very own Oscars-style award ceremony.
A cast of students from the Dales School, Morton-on-Swale, were under the spotlight as they attended the premiere screening of their film Fleeing the War.
And with all the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, the eight students from the all-age special school were presented with awards for their outstanding performances.
Assistant head teacher Mike Sissons said: “As part of our post-14 media studies class our students decided to create their own production company, the Dales Snappers, and write, direct, edit and star in their own film about civil war in Siberia.
“All of the ideas were entirely the students’ own and they had a great time taking control of all aspects of the production.
“The only input we had as teachers was to add a small opening scene, explaining the plot, caption the film with titles and edit the music.
“At the end of the project everyone was so happy with the result that we thought it would be a good idea to have an award ceremony, a bit like the Oscars, to reward the students for all their hard work.”
Dozens of friends and family filled The Dales School hall to watch the 15 minute action movie.
Awards went to teenagers Chloe Thirling, Thomas Cullen, Robbie Brown Sam Watson, Matthew Alderso, Jake Shaw, Sam Mortimer, and Daniel Coburn, as well as Mr Sissons.
