Teesdale duo's songwriting skills impress in competition
10:40am Wednesday 13th March 2013 in News By Stuart Laundy, Reporter (Barnard Castle & Teesdale)
ON SONG: Aspiring musicians Tom Saxby and Caitlin Carr.
TWO aspiring musicians are celebrating after their songwriting skills bagged them a brand new electric guitar.
Teesdale teenagers Tom Saxby and Caitlin Carr's song All the Ocean was judged the best in a competition run by the TCR Hub, in Barnard Castle.
The Hub runs a popular music project which attracts about 165 people a week and challenged the under-25s to come up with an original tune.
Judging the entries was Rob Yeadon, who has been involved in various aspects of the music industry for several years, ranging from performance to production and tour management.
He said Tom and Caitlin's original melody with “strong, mature” lyrics impressed.
Rob's brother Andy, The Hub music co-ordinator said the competition had attracted a number of quality entries.
“I hope Tom and Caitlin's success will inspire others to have a go the next time we run a songwriting competition.”
A concert showcasing the skills of bands and musicians currently involved in the Hub's music project will take place on Friday, March 22, at The Hub.
Tickets are £5 available in advance from The Hub, telephone 01833-690150.
