CATERING students are preparing to spice up the menu as they raise much needed funds for charity.
Diners will be offered a Mexican feast when students from Darlington College stage an event in aid of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity.
Head chef for the night will be student Tom Trewhitt, who is planning to join the RAF’s catering corps when he leaves college.
He said: “We are all very excited about the event. We chose ABF because they are not that well known and need our support to help servicemen, their families and veterans.”
The Mexican extravaganza, which is the latest in a series of themed evenings, will also give students a taste of what working in the industry is like and test their skills to the full.
As part of the programme, Level 2 catering and hospitality students will be responsible for planning the menu, cooking the food and waiting on guests.
Helen Broadley, hospitality tutor, said: “It is quite daunting for students to be set a live brief like this but they are already rising to the challenge and promising a great evening to raise much-needed funds.”
The college’s Glasshouse Restaurant will be hosting the event on March 27 from 6.30pm.
Anyone wanting to enjoy the Mexican night and help the charity can book a table on 01325 503192.
