THE history of the healthcare since the 19th century is explored in a new exhibition.

The Regaining Your Health display is on show at the Record Office, in Durham’s County Hall.

It explores living conditions down the years, changes to hospitals and child welfare matters.

Two curiosities expected to attract interest are a photograph of a Christmas party on the children’s ward at Sedgefield Hospital in the 1960s and another of staff at Durham County Hospital from 1885.

Archivist Dawn Layland said: “The exhibition is made up of some our most interesting documents and opens up our collections so that people can see the amazing documents we have, things which they might have never thought the Record Office would hold.”

The exhibition will run until the end of the year. The Record Office is open from 8.45am to 4.45pm on Mondays and Tuesdays and from 8.45am to 8pm on Wednesdays. Entry is free.
