Environment event teaches primary school pupils about climate change

HUNDREDS of pupils from primary schools learned more about the environment and saving energy at a special annual event.
Environmental Roundabout took place at Hartlepool Civic Centre and was attended by about 400 Year 5 pupils from 14 of the town’s primary schools.
Workshops on climate change, responsible dog ownership, sustainable travel, wildlife and conservation, and recycling were held.
The event was based on the theme of a “space mission” where children got to visit several fictitious planets, each facing their own environmental problems.
Joanne Taylor, Hartlepool Borough Council’s Environmental Projects Officer, said: “The event is well established having now taken place for the last 14 years.
“It is designed to be a fun way of educating children about the many environmental challenges facing us and we hope they will now be inspired to go out and take their own individual actions to improve the local environment.”
