Families create wildlife habitats

SCHOOLCHILDREN and their families have been busy creating wildlife habitats.
Arctic wildernesses, ants’ nests and armadillos featured in an imaginative display created by year two students from Darlington’s Reid Street School.
The project was created in order to encourage parents to get involved with their children’s education.
The initiative saw 60 3-D models of habitats created by students and their families using methods that combined a variety of skills and curriculum areas.
Vice principal Jane Knowlson said: “It has been a great project with parents supporting their children and helping them with their research.
“We have some wonderful parent/pupil partnerships in our school and the special assembly we staged for families went down very well and has helped them value students’ work even more.
“We don’t have school grounds at Reid Street, being in the centre of town, so we have created our very own outdoor habitats inside the school.”
