Church to host talk about the future of the Darlington riverside

CHURCH FUTURE: The Friends of St Cuthbert’s Church, in Darlington’s Horsemarket, will hold their meeting on Tuesday, March 12, at 7.30pm in the church. The topic of the meeting will be the future of the town centre river area and how its proposed regeneration could affect St Cuthbert’s. Tim Crawshaw, principal officer for urban design, environment and sustainability for Darlington Borough Council, will speak at the meeting. Entry is free for members and £5 for visitors, to include refreshments.

BIKE FOUND: Police in Darlington have recovered a black Apollo Slant mountain bike with white and green writing on the frame. If you think the bike might belong to you, contact Darlington Police on the non-emergency 101 number and ask for PC2509 Hudson from Darlington priority crime team.

FILM CLUB: The next meeting of the Darlington Film Club will include a showing of The Card (U). The club will meet at The Forum, in Borough Road, Darlington, on Monday, March 11, at 8pm. Entry is £3 on the door, to include free popcorn.

PARK RUN: The Darlington Park Run scheme runs every Saturday morning in South Park, starting at 10.30am at the Clock Tower. Open to over-16s, entry is £2 per person.

CHURCH SERVICE: Morning service at Northgate United Reform Church, in Northgate, Darlington, will be led by a worship group of members. The service starts at 10.45am and is open to all.

WARD SURGERY: The councillors for Lascelles ward, in Darlington, will hold a ward surgery for local residents on Saturday, March 9, between noon and 1pm at Cleveland Bridge Social and Athletic Club.

QUIT TIPS: A series of events and advice sessions for No Smoking Day will be held in Joseph Pease Place, in Darlington town centre, on Wednesday, March 13, between 11am and 4pm. The event has the theme Swap Fags for Swag.

Regeneration of the riverside ? I hope a developer is footing the huge bill ? I heard it was costing around £50 million. Going by DBCs record on major project overspend it will be double. Can anyone tell us where this money is coming from ?
