Parish council wins funding to replace damaged floor
11:00am Thursday 7th March 2013 in News
A PARISH council has been awarded lottery funding to replace the floor of its parish hall.
Whessoe Parish Hall, in Darlington, has been closed since February 2011 after the floor developed a number of faults.
The hall had hosted a number of groups and classes, such as dancing, aerobics, parties, Scouts, ladies group meetings and community and social gatherings, which were all forced to find new venues.
The parish secured a grant of £3,834 from the Big Lottery Fund and has been able to lay a new floor and open the hall up to the community once more.
Alan Macnab, parish council clerk, said: “We are delighted that a grant has been made to lay a new floor in the parish hall. We cannot thank the Big Lottery Fund enough for the grant.
“The new floor has now been laid and it is excellent. The hall has been reopened and it is available to be used again by community groups, classes, dances, parties, meetings, small conferences, events and gatherings.”
