Winter fuel payments fund Bedale meals on wheels

Elderly people donating their winter fuel payments have benefit the Dales Care Centre, Bedale, by almost £3,000 to support and expand their meals on wheels service.

The grant came through the Two Ridings Community Foundation, which covers North and East Yorkshire.

They set up a Surviving Winter scheme with the help of money donated by people passing on their payments.

A spokesperson from The Two Ridings Community Foundation said: “We are delighted to support Dales-Cares Meals on Wheels service, and would like to say a big thank you to all those people who donated their Winter Fuel Payment to the Foundation to make this possible.

Dales-Care set up the meals on wheels service last October, and extended it to outlying villages after increasing demand.

They’re now appealing for extra volunteers to help with the service.

Dales-Care Acting Vice Chairman, Stephen Howitt said: “This means we can purchase small items of kitchen equipment and pay our valued volunteer drivers who deliver these meals to the community. We cannot thank the Foundation enough for agreeing to this grant”.
