Railway meeting: Northallerton’s branch of the Wensleydale Railway will meet on Monday, March 18, at 7.30pm, at Northallerton Cricket Club, Farndale Avenue, for a talk by Stephen Middleton titled Vintage Carriages to Autocar.
Nursery appeal: Sowerby Nursery is appealing for volunteers to join their committee. Vacant positions include treasurer, secretary, press officer and fundraisers. For details, call Emma Padley on 01845 527378.

Annual meeting: Residents and traders are being invited to attend the Sowerby annual parish meeting in the Annexe of Thirsk and Sowerby Town Hall on Thursday, March 14, at 7pm. The forum will be followed by a meeting of the parish council at 7.30pm.
JOINT SHOW: Northallerton Male Voice Choir and the town’s Royal British Legion band will perform at the town hall, at 7.30pm, on Saturday, (March 9). For tickets, which cost £7, call 01845-524353.
Crime matters: The Thirsk Area Over-50s Forum will meet The Friends Meeting House, Kirkgate, on Thursday, from 2pm to 3.30pm, to discuss the draft police and crime plan consultation. A police representative will attend.
Musical chance: Thirsk Royal British Legion band will hold an instrument try-out event, on Tuesday, from 6pm, at Thirsk Auction Mart. Organisers said players of all ages and abilities are welcome to attend. For details, call 01845-523511.
Wood works: The Zillah Bell Gallery, in Thirsk, will hold an exhibition featuring 130 works from the 75th Annual Exhibition by members of the Society of Wood Engravers, until March 30.

Fundraising sale: A nearly-new sale for Yorkshire Cancer Research will be held on Friday, March 8, from 9.30am to 3.30pm at Thirsk and Sowerby Town Hall. Donations can be left at the hall on Thursday.
