Caroline Flint MP visits Egglescliffe School to launch new solar panels

A SHADOW cabinet minister visited a Teesside school on Friday to switch on solar panels which have been installed to slash energy costs.
Caroline Flint, the shadow secretary for energy and climate change, officially opened the new renewable energy project at Egglescliffe School in Eaglescliffe, near Stockton-on-Tees, on Friday.
The school received a £21,000 grant towards its solar panels from the EDF Energy Green Fund which supports projects that help reduce greenhouse gases linked to global warming.
The 80 solar panels are fitted to the roof of the school’s south-facing sports hall and are expected to reduce Egglescliffe’s carbon emissions by more than 10.2 tonnes per year.
Funding was also received from TATA Global Beverages, owner of Tetley Tea, which has a factory in nearby Durham Lane, and from SABIC in Teesside.
EDF Energy offers awards of up to £30,000 to help schools, charities, local authorities, churches, water mills and other non-profit organisations to generate clean, green energy in their own community.
