Mountain rescue team called to help five-year-old who fell 60ft down Roseberry Topping

Volunteers from Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team carry an injured woman down Roseberry Topping
MOUNTAIN rescuers were called into action at the weekend when a five-year-old girl fell 60ft down the steep slopes of Roseberry Topping.
The youngster was out walking with family and friends on Saturday at around 12.45pm when the accident happened.
North Yorkshire Air Ambulance requested the support of the Cleveland Mountain Rescue team to get to the girl quickly.
Two members of the public, one a theatre sister and the other a resuscitation officer from a local hospital, saw the accident and provided care before the ambulance personnel and Team members arrived.
The little girl was given a thorough examination by the paramedics and the rescue team doctor and although shaken it appeared that she had sustained no injuries.
As a precaution she was taken to Middlesbrough’s James Cook University Hospital (JCUH) for a check up.
Barry Warrington, a spokesman for the Team, said: “It was miraculous that the little girl appeared not to have sustained any injuries and by the time she was in the Land Rover she was ‘all smiles’ much to the relief of family and friends. You could almost feel the collective sigh of relief running through the Team.”
And it was a busy weekend for the volunteers who took a second call-out of the day a few hours later at 4pm when they were called almost to the same to go to the aid of a 40-year-old woman who had slipped on the path and had broken her ankle.
Their third call-out came just after midnight when the Ambulance Service called on them to assist with the rescue of a 19-year-old man who was out walking with three friends when he began to complain of severe chest pains, became faint and was unable to carry on.
Two paramedics from the ambulance service together with members of the Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team managed to locate the young man on the North York Moors and transfer him to JCUH.
