New course to get people back to full fitness in Hartlepool

A TEN-WEEK introductory cardiac rehabilitation exercise course has been launched to help people back to fitness.

The course which is being offered by Hartlepool Council’s Exercise for Life and GP Referral Scheme began on Monday, February 25 to coincide with National Heart Month but people can still enrol.

Co-ordinator Lorraine Harrison said: “You may recently have had a Healthy Heart Check at your doctor’s surgery and have been advised to increase your activity levels due to high blood pressure or high cholesterol. If so, this course is an ideal way to start to increase your activity levels.

“The course is also aimed at those people who are in a stable condition following a heart attack or heart bypass surgery.”

The weekly sessions take place on Mondays from 10.30am to 11.30am at Brierton Community Sports Centre. They are led by a nationally-qualified cardiac rehabilitation instructor.

There is a weekly charge of £2.10 for Active Card holders, £1.70 for concessionary Active Card holders. There is also a casual rate of £2.60 for non-Active Card holders.

For more information call Lorraine Harrison on 01429-284363.
