FORMER England cricketer Paul Collingwood has been honoured by his local council.

The 36-year-old all-rounder, who was born in Shotley Bridge, County Durham, has been awarded Durham County Council’s Chairman’s Medla for services to cricket and Durham County Cricket Club, which he captains.

Council chairman Linda Marshall said she had never met a more likeable person.

She added: “Everyone in County Durham is very proud of Paul.

“He is a local hero and defeat is a word that’s not in his vocabulary.

“I can’t imagine a more fitting recipient of the Chairman’s Medal.”
