YOUNGSTERS are to get a chance to work with professional artists next weekend – as part of the build up to the inaugural Dales Festival of Art.
Two workshops are being held in Leyburn on Friday, March 9 to teach the arts of mosaic and felt making.
Irene Lofthouse is holding two mosaic making classes – for five to seven-year-olds from 9.30am to 10.45am, and for eight to 11-year-olds from 11am – 12.30pm.
Both classes will explore the legend of the green man.
The afternoon is for the older age group – 12 to 18-year-olds – when felt making is the subject with artist Emma Fountain. The three hour class kicks off at 1.30pm.
And everything made at the workshops will be exhibited at the May 4 to 6 festival based in and around Leyburn.
Festival organiser Sue Dewhurst said: “The pieces will form part of an art trail around Leyburn, leading to a sculpture park in Thornborough Hall's garden and an artists' market in the Market Place.
“The workshops are a very exciting part of the build up – and will be further boosted by sessions during the festival.
“People will be able to try their hand at learning a new skill.”
Next weekend’s workshops take place at Thornborough Hall – there is a £3 charge for each. Booking is essential - contact Leyburn Library on 0845-0349505. Adults must accompany all five to seven-year-olds.
The Dales Festival of Art is supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, North Yorkshire County Council and Richmondshire District Council.
