Drivers' scheme raises more than £3,000 for dales' woodlands

A SCHEME that allows businesses to balance their carbon footprint, last year raised £3,651 for woodland restoration in the Yorkshire Dales.
The Fuelcard Company, commercial fuel card resellers, has just marked its second anniversary of working in partnership with the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust (YDMT).
Through its EcoPoint scheme it contributed £3,651 last year the trust’s woodland restoration project. The money is enough to pay for just under two acres of new woodland, with approximately 1,280 trees and shrubs.
EcoPoint works by allowing companies with business vehicles to fund green initiatives by paying 50p a month on their fuel cards and has raised £6,260 for YDMT since 2011.
Conservationists aim to double the amount of broadleaved woodland in the Yorkshire Dales National Park to 5,000 hectares by 2020.
It is hoped it will create more habitats for wildlife, absorb carbon dioxide and provide spaces for people to enjoy.
So far YDMT has planted just over one million native broadleaf trees.
