Driving instructor finds route to new career
11:08am Friday 1st March 2013 in News
A DARLINGTON driving instructor has put himself on the road to a new career teaching Tai-Chi.
Ken Hornung, 56, has been a driving instructor for more than 25 years.
For the past six years Mr Hornung has taught traditional yang style Tai Chi alongside giving driving lessons to local people.
Now he is winding down his driving commitments and making Tai Chi a full-time occupation.
Mr Hornung said that the health benefits of taking part in regular Tai-Chi classes are highly visible in his students.
Some of the reported health benefits include reduced blood pressure, improved body strength and a better quality of sleep.
Mr Hornung is taught by international Tai Chi master John Ding, who is based in London.
More than 20 weekly classes are now taught by Ken, who has recently started two new classes in Darlington.
A class for people aged 50+ is available on a Thursday at 10.30am in Bondgate Methodist Church, and a new class for people of all ages is taking place on Wednesday evenings, 7.30pm in Cantina, in Skinnergate.
Mr Hornung teaches students of all abilities and said everyone is welcome.
