Police divers in mystery river search in Stockton

POLICE divers searched the River Tees earlier today, Thursday, February 28, in connection with an assault case which may have taken place last year.
An area of the Tees near Thornaby Place on Stockton’s Riverside, near Victoria Bridge, was searched today following a search of the wider area yesterday, Wednesday, February 27.
A police spokeswoman said the Force was still trying to establish if the crime had taken place at all but said it was a serious matter.
She said: “Police are conducting enquiries after receiving a report that an assault may have taken place in the Bridge Road area of Stockton last year; however no victim has been identified. As a precautionary measure, officers are conducting enquiries and searches in the local area for information to establish whether a crime has been committed.”
