Art students create installation celebrating Darlington's railway heritage

A GROUP of art students have unveiled a rail heritage art project they have spent months working on.
The 17 students from Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College worked in collaboration with Westbrook Villas Residents’ Association and the Head of the Steam Railway Museum to create an installation depicting Darlington’s railway history.
The work will form a permanent feature of Westbrook Villas, one of the last areas of Darlington to have an association with the Pease family, who helped to found the Stockton and Darlington Railway.
Shirley King, of the Westbrook Residents Association, said: “It has exceeded my expectations. The artworks are superb and join the heritage of our lovely street with the present. I’d like to thank the students, and everybody else who has helped us.”
The students were also joined by Tim Fisher, principal of QE Sixth Form College, who said: “The QE art department has a well-established tradition of working with a variety of community-based projects in Darlington and this has been another fantastic opportunity for our students to work with local residents and groups. I really think that together they’ve brought something special and different to the town.”
Student art work will also be displayed inside Head of Steam in a temporary exhibition.
