Students get a taste of working life

STUDENTS preparing to go out into the world of work gained an insight into a range of jobs at a school’s careers event.

Youngsters from all year groups at Hurworth School had the chance to hear from a range of employers at the day-long event on Wednesday (February 27).

A range of employers took part, including Cummins, the police service, Darlington Borough Council, the Armed Forces, Rockliffe Hall Hotel and The Northern Echo.

Pupils had earlier had a chance to speak to colleges and universities about what they might want to do when they leave school.

Careers advisor Penny Hudson, who organised Wednesday’s event, said it had been a success, with positive feedback from students.

She said: “The aim of this day is to give students information about life after school and to raise awareness of the variety of apprenticeship and employment opportunities available to them.”
