A DRUNK woman stole flowers to give to a friend whose father had passed away, a court heard.
Catrina Holland, of Eldon Street, Darlington, stole flowers and a jug from Heavenly Scent, in Skinnergate, at about 4.30pm on February 11 this year.
The town’s magistrates heard the 39-year-old was later found in the nearby Tanners Hall pub with the items, where she was arrested.
Blair Martin, prosecuting, said Holland had taken the items, valued at £17.50, to give to a friend after their father passed away.
Holland, who represented herself in court, said: “I had a drink but someone had passed away. I can’t really deny it and I’m not going to deny it.”
She pleaded guilty to theft, which put her in breach of a 12-month conditional discharge imposed just four days earlier before the incident on February 7 this year.
Magistrates gave her a six-month conditional discharge, to run alongside her current conditional discharge, and ordered her to pay a £15 victim surcharge.
