LEYBURN Auction Mart’s second annual dinner dance at Tennants Auction Centre raised around £800 for a local cancer charity.

Organiser Rachael Terry said the dinner and disco, attended by 109 guests, on Saturday, February 9, raised money for the Wensleydale branch of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

“The wife of one the farmers who uses the mart, Lorna Clarkson, runs the branch so we chose to support it.

“Last year we gave the proceeds to the youngsters at Wensleydale Rugby Club - we hope to choose a different local charity each year.”

She added: “We will be celebrating our centenary in 2019 so I think we will build up to that year and put on a big shin-dig.”
