CONSULTATION on dozens of possible job losses at Darlington Borough Council has started this week.
The council announced last week that up to 57 jobs were at risk at the authority as a result of budget cuts.
A review into how the council operates has now started, including consultation with staff about job losses.
The council has said that the proposals will not have a direct impact on frontline services.
Ada Burns, chief executive at Darlington Borough Council, said: “The reduction in Government grant is such that every single service the council provides will need to be reviewed, inevitably, this will lead to job losses.
“Whilst we will try and avoid compulsory redundancies wherever possible; the scale of the funding cuts means that this may not be possible.”
