Insurance firm launches 'shop local' campaign

DARLINGTON insurance broker BiB, in Northgate is urging local residents to ‘keep trade local’ after research by the British Retail Consortium revealed that more than one in ten high street shops is empty. Managing director Brian Jackson said: “The purpose of this campaign is to urge customers to continue to support their local independent shops and traders, which are the heartbeat of the community. If we don’t use out local businesses, we will lose them.” Stickers are available for local businesses to show their support. Call 01325-353888.
ART SHOW: Sixty members of The Bridge Artists, which meets at the Bridge Centre for Visual Arts, in Hundens Lane, Darlington, is holding an exhibition at The Station, in Richmond, from Saturday (February 23) until March 7. The group has held its meetings at The Bridge since the closure of Darlington Arts Centre last year. The exhibition, which will include pieces for sale, will be made up of a mix of art work including paintings, pastels, ceramics, felting and print-making.
JUNIOR GYM: Fitness sessions for young people aged 11 to 16 will be held at Eastbourne Sports Complex, in Darlington, starting on Saturday, March 9. Two sessions are available, from 10am to 11am and 11am to noon. They will be supervised by qualified gym instructors, who will offer advice and fitness tips. £2 per session. Call 01325-243177.
