Teesdale Baby Cafe launched

NEW mothers and mums-to-be celebrated the launch of a new Baby Café covering Teesdale.

Part of a national network of breastfeeding drop-ins, the cafe will be held weekly, alternating between the Sure Start centre, in Galgate, Barnard Castle, and the children's centre, in Cockfield.

About 70 people, including Barnard Castle Mayor Frank Harrison and local MP Helen Goodman, attended the launch.

Co-ordinator Helen Lloyd said the cafe offered the chance for new and expectant mums to enjoy a cuppa and chat with other people in a similar situation with support and information about the benefits of breastfeeding available.

The Teesdale Baby Cafe is funded by Public Health County Durham and Darlington and is be one of 11 in the area.

Nationally, Baby Café has more than 100 drop-ins supporting up to 10,000 mums a year.

The Teesdale Baby Cafe will be open in Cockfield next Wednesday, February 27, between 10.30am and noon.
