12:00pm Wednesday 20th February 2013 in News By Joanna Morris
ONE OF seven new community hubs was opened in Middlesbrough today (Wednesday February 20).
Local residents gathered to celebrate the launch of The Community Hub in Easterside, which has been designed in the heart of the community to offer people a place to meet and access a variety of activities and services.
Children, young people and families were invited along to the launch to experience what the hub will offer.
Crowds enjoyed a host of activities at the open morning, including cooking demonstrations, face painting and a circus skills workshop. T
hey were also given the opportunity to express their views on how they thought the new community space should be used.
Abdul Khan, team leader for the West Middlesbrough Neighbourhood Team, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for the residents of Easterside and neighbouring areas.
"The Hub will be the key point for accessing library services, computers, youth activities and community space in Easterside. We want local people to come to the hub and have their say in how the space can be used.”
Community Hubs have also been set up at Berwick Hills, Grove Hill, Coulby Newham, North Ormesby, Thorntree and Newport Settlement.
