DANCERS at a Darlington school are celebrating after scooping a choreography award for the second year in a row.

Students at Hummersknott Academy took the Youth Choreography Award for the second time at Darlington Dance Festival, which was held on Tuesday, February 12 at Darlington Civic Theatre.

About 400 youngsters, aged six to 16 took part in the event.

The group, made up of year eight, ten and 11 students, worked together in their own time to choreograph their winning piece, based on the theme of falling asleep, dreams, and reality.

One of the dancers, Lily Campbell, 15, was part of last year’s winning group and played a lead role in this year’s performance.

Dawn Pilbeam, assistant subject leader for PE, said: “This was a well-deserved award as the students have worked tirelessly to refine the piece in their own time. Well done.”

As well as dancing at school many of the group are part of the Advanced Training Programme based at Dance City in Newcastle and share the skills learnt there with other students at the school.
