RICHMOND SWIMATHON: Richmond Swimming Pool is hosting a charity swimathon in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care in April.

Marie Curie Nurse Dawn Dyne from Richmond is urging local people to join the thousands of swimmers this April 26 to 28 taking part in Swimathon 2013.

She joins Richmond Swimming Pool’s staff to encourage people to take part in a swimming challenge and help raise vital funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Swimmer entry is now open at www.swimathon.org.

BUSINESS MEETING: The Federation of Small Business is holding a meeting with members to discuss business engagement with Hambleton District Council.

Following contact by members regarding issues including parking charges, the local Dales branch is holding an open meeting to gather views, ideas and proposals for a business-friendly council.

The meeting will take place at the Golden Lion, Northallerton on Tuesday, February 26 at 7pm.

The meeting is open to FSB members and all local businesses, and all opinions and comments are welcomed.

MATHS CHALLENGE: A-Level and Year 11 students at Richmond School had another successful year as they competed with almost 100,000 students from across the country in the UK Senior Maths Challenge.

The competition is aimed at the very finest young mathematicians and, from those entered from Richmond School this year, 17 achieved a bronze award, 12 a silver award, and four received a gold award. Only the top ten percent of participants throughout the UK are awarded the gold certificate.

The top 3,000 of the gold award students from throughout the country were invited to take part in the European Kangaroo Challenge.

RECORD FAIR: Records, DVDs, CDs and vinyl will be on sale at the Station, Richmond, on Sunday, March 3 from 10am until 4pm.

CYCLING ADVENTURE: The Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team is holding a talk by Paul Brooks, called Tall Ships, on Thursday, February 21 from 7.30pm.

It will take place at the club’s headquarters in Hipswell Road West, Catterick Garrison, and entry costs £4.

All proceeds go towards funding the team.

LENT LUNCH: The first lent lunch of the Parish of Easby with Skeeby, Brompton-on-Swale and Bolton-on-Swale will be held at 1, Olliver Lane, Skeeby, on Wednesday, February 20 from noon.

The proceeds from this year’s lunches will be donated to the Richmond Food Bank.
