£3,000 speed sign to be erected in High Etherley

TRAFFIC SIGN: Durham county councillor Pauline Charlton has donated £3,000 from her member's allowance to Etherley Parish Council to cover the cost of a new vehicle activated speed sign to erected in High Etherley. Parish councillors expressed their thanks for the donation at their February meeting.

PRAYER DAY: Women's World Day of Prayer will be celebrated in Teesdale at Cotherstone Church on Friday, March 1. The service starts at 1.30pm and the guest speaker is the Reverend Bev Hollings. This year's service has been prepared by the Christian Women of France and is entitled 'I was a stranger and you welcomed me'. All welcome at the service.

STANDING DOWN: Etherley parish councillor Martin Clark announced he was quitting the group with immediate effect. In a letter to chairman Peter Ray, Mr Clark stated: “I can no longer spread myself so thinly. I feel now is the right time to stand aside.” The council is to write to Mr Clark thanking him for his service to the community.

COMPLAINTS SNOWBALL: Nine complaints of snowballs being thrown were reported to police by residents in Etherley, Low Etherley and Toft Hill between January 17 and February 13. At the area's recent Police and Communities Together meeting, police said there were a total of 15 incidents altogether, including one burglary and one theft.

TIME CHANGE: Durham county councillor Stephen Hugill has changed the time of a ward surgery he is holding at the Randolph Centre, Evenwood, on Tuesday, February 19. The event will now he held an hour earlier, between 5pm and 6pm.

COFFEE MORNING: St Mary's Church, Middleton-in-Teesdale, is hosting a coffee morning at the village's Masonic Hall on Saturday, february 23, starting at 10am.

MAKE A DATE: The next meeting of Etherley Parish Council will take place on Thursday, March 13, in Toft Hill Community Centre.
