Poppy Appeal breaks £1m barrier for second year in a row
THE Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal in the North-East has broken the one million pound mark for a second year running.
The nation’s best-loved charity appeal has seen Northerners dig deep to smash the £1m mark in the region once again.
Community fundraiser for the Legion, Rachel Jobson said: “It is wonderful news that we’ve broken the one million mark in the North East for a second year running.
“It serves to show the overwhelming strength of feeling people have in the region for the Poppy Appeal and the life line work of the Legion which provides immediate support and life-long care to Armed Forces families in need.
“With the backing of the region behind us, the Legion is on target to raise £42m – £2m more than last year’s record amount of £40m to carry out our vital work.”
The charity is now recruiting now volunteers to help with this year’s Poppy Appeal.
