Chalet plan near Darlington rejected

A BID to build a timber chalet near an existing holiday park in Skipbridge has been rejected.

Darlington Council’s planning committee refused permission for the chalet to be built at the former Skipbridge brickworks site after they visited the area themselves.

The proposal had been approved by the council’s planning officer, but following the site visit, committee members agreed that the structure would not be in keeping with the surrounding area.

The proposed site is in the vicinity of three residential properties known as The Potteries and a short distance away from the Lakeside Eco Lodge Park.

Objectors to the scheme, including Hurworth parish councillor Jeffrey Kemp, argued that granting permission would ‘open the floodgates’ for chalets to spring up all over the countryside.

The developer can appeal the decision.
