POLICE searching for missing Helmsley woman Barbara Colling have located a body.

It was found on Hawnby Moor by a member of the public at 10.45am yesterday. (Wednesday, Feb 13.)

Mrs Colling has not been seen since Monday, January 28 after setting out on a walk and was last seen in the area of the B1257 at Abbotts Hagg, near the Rievaulx turn off.

An intensive search, involving North Yorkshire Police, mountain rescue and members of the public was immediately launched in an attempt to find her.

Mrs Colling’s next of kin have been informed of the discovery but police are not yet in a position to formally identify the body.

Her daughter Lizzy Firmin and son Rob Colling said of the search effort: “The response from everyone involved in the search for mum has been tremendous.

“We have been overwhelmed by the support we have received from the local community - they have been absolutely fantastic and we cannot thank them enough.”

The search for Mrs Colling has been stood down and her family have asked for their privacy to be respected at this difficult time.

Police thanked the media for the extensive coverage given during the search.
