A SPRING CLEAN is in store for Middlesbrough’s becks.

The Boro Becks Team is appealing for volunteers to help them spruce up the area’s becks at a series of clean-up events.

Becks Ranger Barry Jobson said “The becks are great places to visit, and with regular litter picks they have improved a great deal in the last few years.

“With all the windy weather we have had recently, lots of extra rubbish has blown onto the becks or washed downstream, and so they do need a good spring clean.

“Now that the leaves have fallen from trees and vegetation has died back that litter becomes easier to see, which makes the becks look messy.

“The becks are wonderful green spaces right on people’s doorsteps, and residents can always do their bit to keep them tidy by taking home their rubbish or dropping it into a litter bin.”

Litter picking events will take place from 10.30am to noon at Spencer Beck on Tuesday February 26, Middle Beck on Thursday February 28, Marton West Beck on Tuesday March 5 and Ormesby Beck on Thursday March 7.

Gloves and tools will be provided and free refreshments will be available after. For more information on how to take part, call 01642 515618 or email borobecks@middlesbrough.gov.uk.
