Youngsters get road safety lessons

SCHOOL children got an insight into life behind the wheel in a road safety event.

Seven year ten students at Hurworth School, in Darlington, got the chance to drive around the school yard at the culmination of a project on road safety.

Teaching assistant Jane Parker said: “We had done some classroom work on the dangers of drink-driving and this was a follow-up to that.

“The students got to drive an automatic car around the yard, around various simulated junctions, so they could get an idea of how long it takes a car to stop.

“They got a lot out of it.”
