A GENTLEMEN'S fundraising evening at the Arden Arms, Atley Hill, near Scorton, has raised £4,000 for Cancer Research UK and £2,000 for Herriot Hospice Homecare.

Organisers have thanked former racehorse trainer David Barker and the new landlords of the pub, Graham and Pam Lee, for their donations at the event, which was attended by 160 people.

Farmer Graham Clark, of South Cowton, said: "This was a fantastic result from the event which was fully booked."

HISTORIC SHOW: A dramatised account of the treatment of dissidents who joined a late 16th-century attempt to establish a permanent English settlement in North Carolina will be performed at Thorpe Prebend House, High St Agnesgate, Ripon, at 3pm on Sunday (February 17).
