A FAMILY-run funeral service has raised £250 for a local hospice by asking people to donate to hang messages on a Christmas tree.

Whitehouse Funeral Services, in Darlington, has taken part in the St Teresa’s Hospice Giving to Life Tree campaign every year since it began in 2008.

The company encouraged staff and customers to hang messages of love on a Christmas tree in their offices when making a donation to the hospice.

The company’s effort follows the charity’s popular Christmas tree in the Cornmill Centre, which sees hundreds of people donate each year.

Funeral director John Whitehouse said: “I am overjoyed and amazed at the response we get every year. Thank you to all our staff and customers.

“I’m absolutely over the moon that we have been able to help St Teresa’s Hospice in this way.”
