A THEATRE group is bringing the ultimate family musical to the stage – but for two cast members it really will be a brotherly affair.

Teenages, Joe and Ben Connor will be sharing the part of Rolfe in Darlington Operatic Society’s latest production of The Sound of Music.

The brothers, who have been members of the society since 2007, were chosen to share the part of Rolfe, who falls in love with the Von Trapp’s eldest daughter, Liesel, as the production team could not choose between them.

Joe, 19, said: “It was the only part we both auditioned for, but we never thought we were both going to get the part.

“The Sound of Music is one of my favourite musicals so I jumped at the opportunity to be in it.”

Society spokesman, Julian Cound, said: “The two guys did so well in their auditions, it seemed like a good idea to cast both of them.

“We have double-cast Liesel too, so each of the brothers gets to perform and get to know their own Liesel.”

Ben, 17, said: “It is very weird to think we will be sharing the part as brothers, I don’t think that happens very often.”

The brothers will each perform in six of the shows, which start on Wednesday, April 24, through to Saturday, May 4.
