OLYMPIC swimming star Aimee Wilmott has backed an initiative to encourage Middlesbrough youngsters to swim. Middlesbrough Council has launched new swimming lessons featuring a cast of aquatic characters designed to encourage children to take up the sport. Aimee, who is from the town and who swam in the 400m in the London Olympics, said: “The younger you start in swimming the quicker you’ll progress, so an initiative like this is a great starting point.” Visit www.middlesbrough.gov.uk/neptune or call 01642 230106 to find out more.
RUBBISH LEAFLETS: People in Hartlepool are urged to look out for leaflets detailing changes to the way Hartlepool Borough Council collects rubbish and recycling. The leaflets will explain how new wheeled recycling bins are to be issued to most of the town’s 42,000 homes and will begin to drop through letter boxes on Monday, February 11.
YOUTH AUDITIONS: Audtions for the Youth Music Theatre are to be held at The Arc in Stockton on Saturday, February 16. Auditions cost £35. Find out more at www.youthmusictheatreuk.org.
