DARLINGTON mayor Paul Baldwin is to visit an arts project to learn more about its work.

Coun Baldwin will visit the Openart (correct) Studio, at the Bridge Centre for Visual Arts, in Yarm Road, on Monday (February 18).

Openart Studio is an initiative funded by Darlington Borough Council and PCT County Durham and supported by Creative Darlington to help people enhance and improve their mental well-being through exploring and experimenting with creative and artistic activities.

Participants can get involved in a number of activities including drawing, painting, ceramics, textiles and digital media.

Work created by participants of the Openart Studio will be displayed in exhibitions at The Bridge, Darlington’s Crown Street Art Gallery and The Station, in Richmond, later this year.

The Openart Studio is also making plans to be part of the Darlington for Culture Arts Festival this May, Darlington Community Carnival in June and Darlington By The Sea event in the summer.

Coun Baldwin said: “I am very much looking forward to finding out more about the work of the Openart Studio and talking to members about how the programme has helped them.

“It is a wonderful programme and a lifeline to many participants, helping them develop their lives, social circle and confidence.”
