THE sister of the world’s fastest steam locomotive Mallard has joined it on display at the National Railway Museum in York.
The Dwight D Eisenhower has been undergoing cosmetic restoration work after moving into the museum workshop late last year, ahead of celebrations in July to mark the 75th anniversary of Mallard breaking the world speed record.
The Dominion of Canada, which is also on loan to the museum for two years, is being given a Mallard-style makeover into characteristic garter blue at the National Railway Museum at Shildon.
The centrepiece of the event will will see all six of the surviving A4 locomotives displayed on the Great Hall turntable in the museum.
