A TEESSIDE MP has called on the Prime Minister to move civil service jobs into the area.
Redcar MP Ian Swales brought up the closure of the Stockton Insolvency Office when he spoke in Parliament today (Wednesday February 6).
In light of the closure of the office, which was announced yesterday, Mr Swales referred to other public agency jobs lost on Teesside recently and asked David Cameron to look into the situation.
The Prime Minister said he believed a rise in private sector jobs would help to outweigh losses in the public sector and claimed the Government was committed to balancing jobs around the country.
Mr Swales said: “Our area needs to be responsible for our own services and not have everything shipped out to Newcastle or further afield...I am determined to work hard to ensure that these decisions are given proper consideration and keep fighting for local jobs.”
