A CAR passenger who died after two vehicles travelling in opposite directions collided has been named as a 25-year-old construction firm site manager.

Ernst Kirchhoff, who was known to his colleagues as Mathias, had been working in the North Yorkshire and Cleveland area for facade construction and insulation engineering firm Lindner Isoliertechnik.

Mr Kirchoff, who originated from Saarbrucken, in Germany, had been in a Ford Focus car with a Polish colleague on the A658 near Kirkby Overblow, North Yorkshire, when it collided with a Toyota 4x4, which was towing a trailer.

Police urged witness to the accident, shortly before 4pm on January 28, to call 101.

An inquest into Mr Kirchoff's death has been opened and adjourned.
