A MUSEUM is holding an event about how ancient herbal remedies were supposed to work and how effective they were.

Richmondshire Museum, in Richmond, will host the Leeches, Lumps and Lice workshop on Friday, April 19 and show people what housewives would grow in gardens, and how a national panic would grow as epidemics spread through urban areas.

The interactive event will find out if the audience are suffering from the King’s evil or the bloody flux, and what part of the body could benefit from being rubbed with onions.

Another workshop, on Friday, April 26, delves into the personal letters and diaries of historic Swaledale family, the Brodericks.

Using the museum’s collection of original papers, information about the enclosing of open pastures, property deeds, manorial rights and mining contracts will be explored and discussed.

Places for both sessions, from 1pm until 4pm, are limited so advance booking on 07894-668005 is essential.
