THE Olympic legacy is alive and kicking in Middlesbrough thanks to the town’s very own ‘Chariots of Hire’.

The town’s Shopmobility fleet has been boosted with the arrival of four mobility scooters which were used at the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.

The scooters were offered to the charity at a fraction of the normal retail price.

Gail Chester, Shopmobility development manager, said: “The charity is having a fantastic year and our busiest yet and we are at the point of demand outstripping supply – so these scooters are just what we needed right now.

“The scooters look amazing, and to know that a bit of the Olympics and Paralympics is here in Middlesbrough is a great talking point with customers.”

Shopmobility user Mark Oliver from Ormesby said: “These new scooters are brilliant, really nice and comfortable to use - they are a lifeline.

“Without these scooters and the Shopmobility service I would not be able to get out and about.”

Shopmobility is open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm in the Hillstreet Centre. For more information about the hire service call 01642-254545.
