Catterick Garrison man released after Colburn hit-and-run inquiry

A TEENAGER has been questioned and released by detectives investigating a hit-and-run crash, in which a 39-year-old mother was left for dead.

North Yorkshire Police said they arrested a 19-year-old man in the Catterick Garrison area yesterday, nine days after Rosina Seabright suffered critical injuries after being hit by a car on Forest Drive, Colburn.

Mrs Seabright, who has two daughters, remains in a stable condition in James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough.

The man was arrested and taken into custody for questioning while his car was examined for any connection to the collision, at around 10.10pm on Saturday, January 26, as Mrs Seabright was crossing the residential road towards Cherry Tree Walk.

A shop worker said she saw a car speeding along the residential road at around 60mph before she found Mrs Seabright with horrific injuries.

The arrest followed officers stopping 18 drivers during roadside checks in Colburn on Saturday night.

A police spokeswoman said: “We are now satisfied that the man was not responsible for the collision and he has been released from custody without charge.”

She urged members of the public not to speculate on social media sites about the incident.
