Dolphin Centre gym closes for long-awaited refit

A TEMPORARY work-out space is up and running at the start of the month-long refurbishment of a council-run gym.

The gym at the Dolphin Centre, in Darlington, closed at the weekend, ahead of the start of the much-needed facelift on Monday (February 4).

Included in the modernisation will be a range of new machines, updated entertainment systems and a full decoration of the walls, floors, ceilings and lighting.

Customers will still have access to exercise facilities while the revamp is taking place, as a temporary gym area has been set up in the centre’s fitness studio Casual customers can use the temporary gym for the discounted entrance fee of £1.

Mike Crawshaw, head of leisure for Darlington Borough Council, which runs the Dolphin Centre, said the updated gym would enable more people to use it and have a positive impact on public health in the borough.
