Soap stars in charity soccer match

THE twin passions of football and TV soaps will be catered for at a fundraising event in York later this month.

A team from TV’s ever-popular Emmerdale will be taking on opponents from the Royal Mail in a charity soccer match at the York Railway Institute ground on February 24.

The teams will kick off at the ground, off Hamilton Drive in the Acomb area of the city, at 2.30pm and he gates will open at 1.30pm. Admission will be £3 and all proceeds will go to help the work of York’s St Leonard’s Hospice.

There will also be opportunities for autographs and photos with the Emmerdale cast members, as well as a raffle.

Hospice fund-raising manager Sue Miller said: “This is a special chance to see the Dingles, Bartons and Kings take on the might of the Royal Mail’s best local footballers – let’s hope they don’t get stamped on.”
