Heroin addict caught with £240 of drugs

A HEROIN addict with a drug habit spanning a decade has appeared in court for possessing £240 worth of amphetamine.

Police officers found 24 grams of the drug along with some needles when they stopped and searched 42-year-old Grant Trodden in Darlington in the early hours of the morning of January 21.

Trodden pleaded guilty to possession of a Class B drug when he appeared before Darlington Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (January 31).

Mitigating, Claire Haigh said Trodden, of Cumberland Street, had been addicted to heroin for around 14-years and that the amphetamine was for his own use.

He disputed the value of the drugs, saying it was closer to £100.

Trodden was fined £100 and ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £20 victim surcharge, with District Judge Adrian Lower telling him: “I am sure that taking amphetamines even on a recreational basis does you no good.”
